Welcome to your future favorite hobby! This course will teach you the fundamentals of stained glass through live demonstration and practicum. Over this 6-week course, you will learn how to build a leaded stained glass window. You will have the option to utilize one of my existing designs, or design your own. At the end of the week, we will have a showcase where you can invite your friends and family to come see your finished work.

COURSE INFORMATION

SCHEDULE: TUESDAYS 6-9PM

LOCATION: 2212 Main St. San Diego, CA 92113

CLASS FEE: $500

The class fee is all inclusive, so you won’t need to purchase any additional materials to take the course. It covers:

  • 18 hours of instruction

  • Basic drawing and patterning materials

  • Lead, solder, cement and other building materials

  • Glass

  • Full access to open studio hours (while in class)

In addition, you will gain access to:

  • Reduced price starter kit of tools and supplies should you have interest in setting up a home studio after completing the course.

CLASS SIZE: 8 students (4 minimum) If the minimum is not met, you will receive a full credit toward a future class.

REFUNDS/TRANSFERS: For a full refund, you must cancel 7 days before the start of the first class listed above. Inside of 7 days, you will receive a 50% refund. You also have the option to transfer your enrollment to someone else, if you are no longer available for the class. Transfers must happen before the first class listed above. ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Nicholas Ponting is a set designer, installation and stained glass artist. His work has been seen at; The La Jolla Playhouse/WoW, The 5th Ave, IAMA Theatre Co., Boston Court, LA Opera, Chautauqua Theatre Co, Antaeus Theatre Co, Detroit Public Theatre, Theatre Battery and others. He is the associate scenic designer and installation supervisor for Optika Moderna, creating immersive theatrical experiences in San Diego with recent collaborators such as La Jolla Playhouse, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and New Children’s Museum of San Diego.

Nick has worked as a stained glass artist for over 15 years. His mother Susan Kim owned and operated Reflections Stained Glass in his hometown of Spokane, WA. He has worked for her, as well as Seattle Stained Glass on large scale new fabrication and restoration projects. He has pieces all over Washington State. Locally, his work can be seen at the Lafayette Hotel in the mezcal bar Quixote.

Nick is also on faculty at SDSU's School of Theatre, Television & Film and Grossmont College. He teaches scenic and immersive theatrical design. Nick received his MFA in set design from the University of California San Diego studying under Robert Brill, and his BA in theatre from Western Washington University.
